We live in a time when the word “uncertainty” has ceased to be an exception and has become the world´s natural state. The dizzying transformations in technology, politics, climate, health and culture daily confront us with the instability of what we once believed to be safe.
Examples abound: climate change has intensified external phenomena, such as the heatwaves that hit southern Europe and America in 2023 (World Meteorological Organization). Protracted wars, like the one in Ukraine, continue to disrupt geopolitics and cause mass displacements. Artificial intelligence is advancing at a pace that leaves traditional ethical frameworks behind. In addition, there are social movements, economic crises, and the mental impact of living connected to an endless flow of information. What place does spirituality occupy in this scenario?
Far from being a way out, spirituality—in particular, mysticism—can be the art of consciously dwelling in this uncertainty. Today’s Mystic does not seek absolute certainties or easy answers. Their path is not one of evasion, but rather of openness, discernment, and inner transformation.
Cafh invites us to develop a mysticism rooted in the present, where uncertainty is not an obstacle but a fertile field. We can only navigate these changes without losing the center if we have a flexible mind, an open heart, and a willing spirit—as proposed by Otto Scharmer in his U-Theory. Then, uncertainty is not something to be fought; it is something to dwell within.
This dwelling within involves a new inner attitude: to stop seeking external certainties and start building a deep confidence in our ability to engage creatively in the becoming. Spirituality is not about having an answer, but about making room for the unknown, nurturing silence, and maintaining wonder.
In this way, today’s Mystic learns to walk in the midst of chaos with steady feet and an available soul. Not as someone who knows everything, but as someone who dares to learn every day from love, humility, and shared responsibility.
For life also flourishes in uncertainty. It’s here that a new consciousness for humanity can emerge.
We are called to develop a social mission and work from an individual commitment that involves fidelity, listening, presence, and silence. This approach provides a broader context, helping to give meaning to our efforts and allowing for greater awareness. It leads to working in a deliberate, methodical, and relentless way.
Reflection:
The world changes, but the human heart can also change. Dwelling in uncertainty is not resigning oneself, but being willing to create from what is essential.
